Paris

I am hesitant to write about the November 13 Paris attacks. I’m no political scholar. And everyone else has tossed out their own opinions so mine may be lost in the cacophony. And yet…

Here’s a blue sky question:

How about we do nothing?

Bury our dead. Treat the injured. Comfort the bereaved. Facilitate the refugees. And then… nothing.

No reprisal. No bombings. No censure, not even acknowledgement if we could do that.

Yeah, it sucks getting punched in the head. Yes, I know you’re angry. Yes, the impulse is to rage and sound the clarion call and go to war over such an affront. That’s what we do in the US.

But here in the US we’ve seen how this has gone down. Fifteen years has turned our nation into an abomination of security theater and police brutality and mass surveillance. And we’re not a wit stronger against actual terrorists. Tyranny makes gluttons of our leaders and slaves of our people.

France, save yourself. Don’t let your own government use this against you to steal your human rights away. Hold your own close, and treat your fellow citizens with proper regard. Now our people are all terrorists according to our officials. And they don’t care about the people, except at election time.

In psychology, we know that behavior is extincted not by negative reinforcement, but by zero reinforcement. You don’t click on the white space that does nothing.

Suffer them no glory.

Do not resist evil. If anyone slaps your right cheek, turn to him the other.

Keep Calm and Carry On.

Edits: Spelling, punctuation and some modest clarifications.

  1. Howdy would you mind letting me know which web host
you’re utilizing? I’ve loaded your blog in 3 completely different browsers and I must say this blog loads
a lot quicker then most. Can you recommend
a good web hosting provider at a honest price?
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!
